CHN Accounts Clerk

 

Summary

CHN’s Accounts Clerk supports all of the communities that CHN serves. This person is responsible for ensuring the overall success of the program by contributing to the integrity of the company’s database and financial processes.

The Accounts Clerk will be able to demonstrate personal integrity and transparent motives consistent with CHN’s vision and mission. They will have a ready acceptance of their personal and corporate accountability for stewardship of the common good and perseverance to achieve satisfactory outcomes. In addition, the Accounts Clerk must be able to demonstrate excellent problem-solving and decision making skills.

The Accounts Clerk will also demonstrate appropriate technical skills and computer efficiency. The job requires a very high level of computer literacy in a Mac OSX environment, dealing with a sophisticated database and other applications. The Accounts Clerk must have a College education in Accounting, be able to efficiently work from home and have high-speed internet access.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Communicate with the Operations Financial Controller on at least a weekly basis;
  2. Maintain data integrity in the company database on a regular basis;
  3. Prepare and process invoices and payments to host families and partner schools under the direction of the Operations Financial Controller and;
  4. Prepare and distribute student invoices for selected clients and communities under the direction of the Operations Financial Controller;
  5. Download bank files daily and prepare reconciliations of cheques, wire transfers, and other bank deposits;
  6. Verify the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents or records;
  7. Update and maintain accounting journals, ledgers and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g., disbursements, expense forms, receipts, accounts payable). Enters data into computer system using defined computer programs;
  8. Audit ‘approved’ expense forms submitted by CHN staff;
  9. Compile data and prepare a variety of reports;
  10. Investigate questionable data and recommend actions to resolve discrepancies;
  11. Attend CHN training seminars, workshops and AGMs;
  12. Contribute to the further development of CHN’s corporate and individual intellectual property, through suggestions for improvements in our systems and procedures;
  13. Participate in CHN’s annual performance review and planning process in consultation with the Managing Director;
  14. Any other duties assigned by the Managing Director of CHN.

 

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Two-year degree in Accounting or Business with Accounting concentration;
  • At least two (2) year’s experience in bank reconciliation, bookkeeping or accounting (directly related business school or college courses may be substituted equally for up to six (6) month’s experience); OR
  • At least five (5) years equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of accounting theories and practices and accepted office procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure given tight deadlines
  • Must be a quick learner and self-motivated
  • High level of attention to detail and organization with the ability to multitask
  • Perform a high volume of numerical detail work with speed and accuracy.
  • Learn complex procedures quickly and adapt to new/changed procedures with ease.
  • Have excellent communication, research and analytical skills.
  • Have ability to solve problems logically and creatively.
  • Prepare financial and other records in a systematic, neat, legible manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, facility personnel, banking officials and the general public.
  • Operate a 10-key by touch and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Type at least 40 words per minute with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proficient computer experience in Mac OSX, Windows, Excel, Access and Word. Preferred experience with Filemaker Pro, and Connected.
