First CHN Mini Conference in Toronto
CHN organizes its National Conference every 2 years so that colleagues and teams across the country can meet face to face, learn from each others wisdom as well as experience professional development activities together. The most recent one was in 2018, and during the alternate years (2019), mini conferences are held in each region to recap, review and also delve further into the topics addressed previously. The first mini CHN conference of the year was held in Toronto from May 14th – 17th, and took place at CSI Annex, the CHN Toronto office space. With both Shannon & Karissa’s teams coming together, there were over 55 people in attendance! Jen Wilson, our managing director, leads the National conference, and the hot topics addressed this year were the Growth mindset, the 3Rs of customer Service, and the Kolbe Index. Allison Byram, National trainer, conducted a session which focused on Crisis Prevention.
After the mini- conference session on May 16th everyone headed to Captive Escape Rooms for a team building event. Split into teams, each group was sent to a different themed escape room. The event was a great success and Shelby Hagymsay from the Toronto Team says, “the greatest take away from the escape room activity was recognizing that everyone had a different way of looking at things”.
The activity reminds us that the same principles can be applied in the work we do – in that, when responding to a situation, getting a second opinion is important in order to avoid your blind spots, to consider all the various sides of a story and lastly, to benefit from the strength of teamwork because, none of us is as smart as all of us*.
