How do you know when you are doing something right?
When you take care of a young student who has traveled 8200 kilometers away from his family and friends in the tropical warmth of Brazil only to find himself in the middle of a Canadian winter immersed in a completely new culture, language and school and…HE CAN’T GET THE SMILE OFF HIS FACE!
Tales, a 17 year old Brazilian student, arrived to the Bulicek’s family home in April 2018 for just a few months before heading back to Brazil for the summer. He returned to Canada in September 2018 and went back to this homestay as he had become fond of the family very quickly. Tales regularly shows up to visit his relationship manager, Alia Ziesman, just to say hello and tell her how happy he is in his homestay! He is in the Upper Grand District School Board International program.
Tales’ family came to visit in the winter, and spent some quality time with the host family. They went on a snowboarding and skiing trip to Mont Tremblant, and summed it up with a quick stop in Ottawa to see the parliament building and skate on the Rideau Canal.
WINTER FUN IN FREDERICTON
In October 2018, students in Fredericton had the opportunity to try curling. Pictured are students from Spain, Mexico and Colombia – many of whom had never stepped on ice before. Many local volunteers offered to teach the kids the sport and they loved it!
