English Montreal School Board

English Montreal School Board

Welcome to Canada!

Canada Homestay Network (CHN) manages Homestay for the English Montreal School Board (EMSB).

In partnership with EMSB, CHN provides international students with warm and welcoming homestays and related custodianship services so they feel well supported during their program of study in Canada.

If you wish to stay with a Canadian host family, please contact us for more information regarding our  Services & Fees,  Student Guide, Student Participation Agreement, and complete our International Student Homestay Application.

Parents of students must complete the EMSB questionnaire and submit this to the EMSB staff.

For more information about the cost of the program, please refer to our Payment Policies and Procedures document.

You should start the process for your Study Permit with Immigration Canada at once. You will also need to obtain the Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)from Immigration Quebec.

When the CAQ has been received from Immigration Quebec, the custodian of the student must go to EMSB with:

  • the CAQ;
  • the birth certificate of the student showing parents names (in their first language and translated into either English or French); and
  • a certified cheque or money order payable to the English Montreal School Board to cover the period the student will attend the school.

EMSB will then complete the registration for the student and apply for the Certificate of Eligibility for the student to attend English school.

Custodianship Services

If you are a student under 18 and are NOT staying with a family friend or relative who is also your Custodian, you MUST register in EMSB’s Homestay and Custodianship Program managed by Canada Homestay Network.

Once your application and payments are received, you will be sent the Parental Appointment of Custodian form. This form must be signed and notarized in your home country. You will then receive the notarized Declaration of Custodianship required by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) along with a confirmation letter containing information regarding your host family.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact us.
